Generic Finasteride. Two Different Ways of Using

Posted By on October 28, 2009

Amazingly, Finasteride is the same generic drug used in both of these prescription medications but it isn’t the same dose. However, they are utilized in two different ways and may not be used interchangeably. These drugs can cause adverse effects in a fetus if a pregnant woman absorbs Finasteride through her skin. Only men receive Proscar and Propecia prescriptions.

Proscar has more Finasteride in it, commonly being dispensed as a 5 mg tablet that is shaped like an apple. A smaller, 1 milligram dose of Finasteride is sold as Propecia. A Proscar tablet cannot be split in an attempt to use it in place of Propecia because once the tablet is cut, it is impossible to ascertain the dose that each piece contains.

It is unwise to take five times the dose of Propecia so you can have the potency of Proscar, because these medications also have additional additives.  How are these two medications different? The drug of choice for the treatment of enlarged prostate in men is Proscar. Proscar works by preventing testosterone in men from being converted to dihydrotestosterone or DHT. In approximately 24% of men who were considered likely to contract prostate cancer, Proscar has been shown to be effective in preventing or delaying the disease. The drug of choice in treating the condition of male-pattern baldness is, on the other hand, Propecia. Propecia does this by working in conjunction with the normal growth and shedding of human hair in men. The loss of hair will stop, or slow, after three months of consuming Propecia. You should consider the idea of using Propecia continuously if you have a good outcome. Eventually you will start losing your hair again within a year after you stop taking the medication, reverting to the hair pattern you had before you were treated medically.

Because it is a prescribed medication Finasteride must be requested through a physician or at online pharmacy. There are a few side effects with most medications, including Propecia and Proscar. Loss of libido, less semen production, hypersensitivity and light rashes manifest while the body deals with this medication. It is necessary for you to ponder the advantages and disadvantages these medications have when choosing what is right for you.
