Treating noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland with the drug Proscar (generic propecia) reduces episodes of urinary retention and the need for surgery by more than 50 percent, a recent long-term study has found. The results contradict an earlier 1-year study that concluded Proscar worked no better than a placebo.

Oral appliances are devices designed to keep the upper airway open by keeping the tongue or jaw from occluding the airway. Oral appliances must be custom-fitted by a dentist and are usually well tolerated.
